The Kratom plant (also called Mitragyna Speciosa) has a long history of use.

Cultures native to regions in southeast Asia have been using Kratom since at least the early 1800s. Since then, a lot of misinformation about Kratom has been spread.

Because of Kratom’s recent increase in popularity, more and more people are seeking out Kratom facts in light of the many Kratom myths that seem to keep popping up.

Kratom Gator is passionate about empowering our customers with the knowledge they need to use Kratom safely and responsibly. In this article, we’re going to be examining four of the most common Kratom myths and explaining why they are, in fact, myths and not facts!

Kratom Myth #1: Kratom Is Illegal in the US

This is probably the most common misconception about the Kratom plant.

Because there are certain regions in the US that restrict or ban Kratom, a myth about its federal legality has been making its rounds throughout the general public.

As of the publishing of this article, the areas in the United States where Kratom is currently restricted or illegal are:

  • City of San Diego and City of Oceanside, California
  • Arkansas
  • Wisconsin
  • Indiana
  • Vermont
  • Rhode Island

Fact: Kratom is not federally listed as a controlled substance, making it legal to buy and possess anywhere in the US not listed above.

It’s important to note that Kratom is considered illegal or banned in other countries. Be sure to do your own research before travelling with Kratom across state lines or to other countries.

Kratom Myth #2: Kratom Is Synthetic

To the uneducated person who hears about Kratom for the first time, it’s possible to get the facts twisted about how it’s made and brought to market.

A lot of supplements these days are, in fact, made in laboratories using synthetic ingredients. Kratom is not one of them.

Kratom powder and Kratom capsules are made by harvesting, drying, and crushing the leaves of the Kratom plant. Period.

Fact: When sourced from a reliable vendor like Kratom Gator, Kratom powder is a 100% organic, natural substance that is not synthetic.

Kratom Myth #3: Kratom Is An Opiate Drug

This myth has been spreading like wildfire recently. The reason is because of the way Kratom alkaloids are processed by the body.

It is true that the two most potent plant alkaloids in Kratom—Mitragynine and 7-Hydroxymitragynine—do have an effect on opiate receptors in the brain. This has been confirmed by scientists.

However, these alkaloids are classified as ‘atypical’ and are not categorized as opiate drugs.

Fact: Opiate drugs are, by definition, derived from the opium poppy. Kratom is not derived from the opium poppy, and as such, it is not an opiate drug.

Kratom Myth #4: All Kratom is Created Equal.

Unfortunately, many people think all Kratom is the same.

The reality is that kratom strains vary widely in their purity, potency, and concentrations of plant alkaloids. The only way to determine the quality of any Kratom is to have it lab-tested (which is something we do here at Kratom Gator!).

You deserve the highest-quality Kratom money can buy, and the best way to ensure you’re getting it is to only deal with a reputable vendor that lab-tests their Kratom.

Also, because strain variations can have different effects for different people, sometimes it takes some trial-and-error to find the one that works best for you.
